December 31, 2007  Our 10th year of service in Montana

          Bad Joke Monday
Q. Why is getting Christmas presents for your kids just like a day at the office?
A. You do all the work and the fat guy in the suit gets all the credit.

What did the bald man say when he got a comb for Christmas?
Thanks, I'll never part with it!

Thoughts while waiting for the New Years Ball to fall at Times Square

Youth is when you're allowed to stay up late on New Year's Eve.
Middle age is when you're forced to.  ~Bill Vaughn

Many people look forward to the new year for a new start on old habits.

A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other.

No one ever regarded the First of January with indifference.
It is that from which all date their time, and count upon what is left.
It is the nativity of our common Adam.  ~ Charles Lamb

New Year's Day is every man's birthday.  ~ Charles Lamb

Never tell your resolution beforehand, or it's twice as onerous a duty.  ~John Selden

Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on,
with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.  ~Hal Borland

New Year's eve is like every other night; there is no pause in the march of the universe,
no breathless moment of silence among created things that the passage of another twelve months may be noted;
and yet no man has quite the same thoughts this evening that come with the coming of darkness on other nights.
                                                                              Hamilton Wright Mabie
The Old Year has gone.  Let the dead past bury its own dead.
The New Year has taken possession of the clock of time.
All hail the duties and possibilities of the coming twelve months!  ~Edward Payson Powell

Top 10 Ways to be Unhappy
in the New Year.
10. Try to do everything perfectly.
9. Remember all the things you "have" to do before the end of the year.
8. Forget about the things you want to do before the end of the year.
7. Don't use Goal-Free Zones - times when you don't do anything at all.
6. Be sure to deny yourself the pleasure of receiving.
5. Give to and for everyone else -- never, ever for yourself.
4. Concentrate on material things.
3. Forget about the true meaning of the holidays -- that is, "holy days."
Remember, our materialistic culture is the be-all and end-all of our society.
2. Focus on what you don't have and what wasn't given to you in the past.
And the #1 best way to be unhappy this holiday season:
1. Focus on yourself.

Think about what people haven't done for you, how they hurt you.
Focus on your body, your own aches, pains and imperfections.
Concentrate on what you lack, what's been taken from you.
Most of all, think of all the people who have more than you'll ever have.
These are the top 10 ways to join the millions of people who
will be unhappy this holiday season.
Oh, and by the way, if you'd like to be "happy" for the holidays,
and all-year round, why not consider doing precisely the opposite?
